Find a Lafayette Parish Parcel, Tax Bill or Map
Use the Lafayette Parish Assessor for assessment values, parcel maps, exemptions and property characteristics; the Sheriff’s Tax Department for parish tax notices and payments; and the Clerk of Court for deeds, mortgages and conveyance records.
This guide shows the correct free search route for owner and address lookups, map-by-address research, 2026 assessment review, homestead and valuation-freeze relief, millage rates, tax bills, payment problems and recorded land documents.
Fast Answer: Where Should You Search?
For a house, lot or commercial real-estate parcel, use the Lafayette Parish Assessor’s Real Estate Map & Search. For an exact assessment number, the Assessor’s property-search page also works. For parish property-tax notices, balances and online payment, use the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Tax Department. For deeds, mortgages, conveyances or UCC records, use the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court.
Assessor, Sheriff Tax Collector or Clerk of Court?
Lafayette Parish property information is split among different offices. Start with the job you need completed rather than searching every government database.
Assessment, parcel map, owner or exemption
The Assessor identifies, locates and values taxable real and personal property, tracks ownership changes, maintains parcel maps and property characteristics, and administers exemptions and special-assessment programs.
Lafayette Parish Assessor Open Assessor WebsiteParish tax notice, payment or delinquency
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office acts as tax collector for parish property taxes. Use its tax portal for tax-year, parcel, taxpayer-name, address and bill-number searches.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Tax Department View Parish Tax HelpDeed, mortgage, conveyance or UCC
The Clerk of Court maintains recorded land records. Use it when you need an act of sale, conveyance history, mortgage, release, UCC filing or document copy.
Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Review Online Land RecordsAssessment review or appeal
Discuss the assessment with the Assessor during the review period first. If unresolved, the local Board of Review hears timely assessment complaints before any further Louisiana Tax Commission appeal.
Assessment review route Contact AssessorHow to Search Lafayette Parish Property Records for Free
The official appraisal and tax lookup tools can be searched without paying a private people-search service. Use the correct search system for the property type.
Decide whether the property is real estate or business personal property
A home, vacant lot or commercial parcel belongs in the Real Estate Map & Search. Business inventory, equipment and similar taxable business assets use the Assessor’s Business Personal Property search.
Start with the cleanest identifier
Use an assessment or parcel number when you have one. Otherwise use the address or owner information available in the real-estate GIS system.
Simplify the search when nothing appears
Use fewer words. For tax searches, the official portal recommends the last name or first word of a business, and for address searches it recommends the street number plus first word of the street name or the street name alone.
Verify the parcel before relying on it
Compare the address, assessment/parcel number, owner display, municipality and property description. Similar names are not enough to confirm a property.
Review the assessment and map
Check fair-market/assessed-value information, parcel context, land/building details and exemption indicators where available.
Move to the responsible office for the final action
Use the Sheriff’s tax portal to pay taxes and the Clerk of Court to verify a recorded deed or mortgage. Do not treat one database as proof of every property fact.

Lafayette Parish Property Tax Rate: How Millage Really Works
There is no single Lafayette Parish property-tax percentage that applies identically to every property. The total depends on taxable assessed value, exemptions, parishwide millages, special districts and the municipality where the parcel is located.
1 mill
One mill equals $1 of tax for each $1,000 of taxable assessed value.
Parish millages
School, law-enforcement, roads, drainage, library, airport, assessment and other authorities can impose separate millages.
Municipal millages
City of Lafayette, Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott and Youngsville properties can have additional municipal millages.
2025 millage context that still helps explain 2026
The Assessor’s 2025 Annual Report lists separate school, sheriff/law-enforcement, courthouse, juvenile detention, drainage, roads, library, airport, economic-development, assessment-district, Bayou Vermilion and municipal millages. It also notes that the 3.12-mill library authorization was scheduled to expire in 2026, which is another reason not to blindly copy the 2025 total into a 2026 tax estimate.
Official Lafayette Parish Assessor tax estimator Open Property Tax Estimator2026 Assessment Review and Appeal Dates
Louisiana uses an assessment-roll review and Board of Review process rather than the Texas-style May protest system used on some other county guides.
The Lafayette Assessor’s annual report lists a 15-day period for taxpayers to inspect, discuss and seek correction of their assessments.
The same official report identifies September 8 as the tentative deadline for submitting a Board of Review appeal.
The report lists September 15 for the local Board of Review meeting.
A taxpayer dissatisfied with the local Board of Review determination may pursue the state appeal route under applicable Louisiana procedures.
Louisiana law provides a judicial-review path with a short filing window after the Tax Commission’s final decision.
Prepare Evidence Before Challenging an Assessment
The Assessor says a taxpayer seeking a reduction should be prepared to show why the parish assessment exceeds market value.
Useful value evidence
- Recent arms-length sale of the subject property.
- Comparable nearby property sales.
- Independent appraisal or real-estate professional opinion.
- Photos documenting adverse property condition.
- Repair estimates or inspection findings.
- Correct measurements or property-characteristic evidence.
Prepare your argument
- Assessment number and address.
- Current Assessor value.
- Your requested value.
- Short explanation of each comparable.
- Explanation of condition differences.
- Copies of the evidence you want reviewed.
Lafayette Parish Homestead Exemption
Louisiana’s homestead exemption can exempt up to $7,500 of assessed value—equivalent to the first $75,000 of market value—for a qualifying owner-occupied homestead.
Basic rule
- The property must be owned and occupied as the qualifying homestead.
- The Louisiana constitutional homestead can include qualifying land and residence within statutory limits.
- The Lafayette Assessor says the exemption remains as long as you reside on and own the qualifying property.
What it does not mean
- It does not make all property taxes disappear.
- It does not automatically cover a separate second house or commercial building on the parcel.
- The Assessor’s annual report notes that homestead exemptions do not apply to municipal taxes.

What is the official Lafayette Parish tax assessor property search?
Use the Lafayette Parish Assessor’s Real Estate Map & Search for houses, land and commercial real estate. The Assessor’s standard Property Search can search an assessment number, but its owner-name field is specifically for Business Personal Property records.
Can I search Lafayette Parish real estate by owner name?
Yes, but use the Assessor-linked Real Estate Map & Search rather than the owner-name box on the standard Property Search page. The Assessor says that standard owner-name field searches Business Personal Property records only.
Can I search Lafayette Parish property records by address for free?
Yes. Use the Assessor-linked Real Estate Map & Search for parcel and assessment research. The Sheriff’s tax portal also provides a free address field for finding parish tax notices.
How do I search the Lafayette Parish property map by address?
Open the Assessor-linked Beacon Real Estate Map & Search and use the address search. For official address or municipality questions, Lafayette Consolidated Government also provides parish property-address resources.
Who is the Lafayette Parish property tax collector?
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office handles parish property-tax collection. Use its Tax Department and online tax portal for parish tax notices, payments, delinquency and related collection questions.
What is the Lafayette Parish property tax rate?
There is no single rate that applies identically to every property. The total depends on taxable assessed value, exemptions, parish and district millages, and any applicable municipal millages. One mill equals $1 of tax per $1,000 of taxable assessed value.
What are the Lafayette Parish 2026 assessment appeal dates?
The Assessor’s annual report lists August 17–31, 2026 as the tentative Assessment Review Period, September 8 as the tentative appeal-submittal deadline and September 15 as the tentative Board of Review meeting. The report says these dates are subject to change, so confirm them with the Assessor before filing.
How much is the Lafayette Parish Homestead Exemption?
The Louisiana Homestead Exemption can exempt up to $7,500 of assessed value, equivalent to the first $75,000 of market value, for a qualifying owner-occupied homestead. It does not automatically eliminate every municipal tax.
Where do I pay Lafayette Parish property taxes online?
Use the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s official tax-payment page or its linked online property-tax portal. The portal supports E-Check and major cards and applies transaction fees. Verify the parcel, taxpayer, address and tax year before paying.
Where can I find Lafayette Parish deeds and mortgage records?
Use the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court. Its land-record resources include Mortgage, Conveyance and UCC indexes, with document images available for many records beginning January 1, 1935.
Finish the Property Search With the Correct Record
For real estate, begin with the Lafayette Parish Assessor’s GIS map rather than the Business Personal Property owner-name box. Verify the parcel and assessment, then move to the Sheriff’s tax portal only when you need a tax notice or payment.
Use the Clerk of Court when the question becomes legal ownership, deed, mortgage or conveyance history. For a 2026 assessment dispute, check the current review and Board of Review dates before the tentative published deadlines pass.
